Francisco Simões also known as Francisco de Almada was born in 1946 in Almada. He took the course of the School of Decorative Arts António Arroio in 1965 and the Sculpture course of the Academy of Music and Fine Arts of Madeira in 1974.

In 1967 he was an OECD fellow in Rome, Turin, Novara, Verona and Milan and the following year he worked at the Louvre at the invitation of Germain Bazin.
